AI & CUSTOM APPLICATIONS

Choosing useful AI features for your custom application

Start with a specific task, decide what information AI can use, and define how people will review its output.

Pick a task with a clear outcome

An AI feature is easier to assess when it has a narrow purpose. Examples include finding information in approved documents, drafting a service reply or summarising a long internal note. Describe what a useful result looks like before choosing a model or interface.

Define the information boundary

Decide which documents and records the feature can access and which users can see the results. Keep access permissions in the application rather than relying on a prompt to enforce them. Review what information is sent to an external AI provider before enabling the feature.

Keep review close to the action

A draft reply can be reviewed before sending. A suggested classification can be corrected before saving. Design the screen so users can inspect the source information and understand when they need to verify a result. Avoid treating generated text as a confirmed business record automatically.

Test against everyday work

Try representative examples, incomplete inputs and questions the feature should decline. Track whether the output helps users finish the task, how often it needs correction and what it costs to operate. Start with a small pilot and use the findings to agree the next phase.
